Hello every one :)
I know it may be a personal thing for some people, but I was wondering how people set up their altar? I've seen pictures on google, and watched videos on youtube of other's altars, but I noticed that none of them looked anything like mine. I know a lot of it depends on what feels right and what you're comfortable with. Personally, I have mine set up with my tools, candles, incense, etc. corresponding with the elements. So I was just wondering how other people have their's set up? Pictures, maybe? I'm just curious - I love all the different influences and the creativity in different altars, as well as the tools and items on them.

It can be a very personal thing but I am happy to share with you. My altar is a desk in my room, on it I have a wooden chest containing my crystals, candles for every use and my athame. I also have a pentagram carved into the desk itself.

Ohhh, my altar is a MESS right now, but once I get it all set up again I'll take pics.

I think how it's set up is a highly individualized thing...what is comfortable for me might not be something you want or like. Personally, I try to keep fresh flowers on it (or fake flowers in the winter), I have quite a bunch of candles, a fountain, some mirrors, assorted tools, bottles of herbs all set on mine. Actually I'm starting to run out of space!

Re: Altars?

Altars hold symbols of natural elements of land, sea, sky & fire is of the gods. Symbols on an altar help purposefully shape & direct thoughts. Tools represent elements - wand-air, blade-fire, cup-water, pentacle-earth. Womb & phalic shapes symbolize deities.
. Basic gear - heat-safe incense bowl, candles & holders, potion cup & offering dish; incense, oil, water/libation, salt & herbs also represent air-fire-water-earth.

No matter how plain or fancy it looks I'm still addressing Nature. The altar is the circle in miniature so I keep it balanced. When nothing in particular is being done I keep a deity image & 24/7 battery candle "on", an incense bowl for daily use & a water bowl on the altar. For some time I've had a whimsical meditating frog & fairy door. Stones come 'n go. I keep my wand on the altar because It doesn't fit in the box where I otherwise store ritual tools.
